Tucked into Long Island’s South Shore, the Great South Bay YMCA offers health and wellness space for thousands of children, teens, individuals, and families every day. To improve the experience of its members and staff, the lobby and reception areas underwent a major renovation that addressed the many challenges presented by the existing space.
Project Scope
The new design creates a more efficient and aesthetically pleasing administrative space. In the existing space, the office equipment, storage, and staff workspaces were visible to all patrons, creating a very cluttered and uninviting look. The renovated space is designed to offer more dedicated storage space and reduce or eliminate the views of staff workspaces from lobby patrons.
A new, eye-catching feature wall was designed to inspire members and reflect the energy of the YMCA. This wall also functions to separate public and private zones to restrict views to administrative functions and storage space and still offer convenient access for staff members.
This renovation has visually and functionally transformed the space to deliver a better member experience and a more personal interaction between staff and lobby patrons. Reactions from both patrons and staff members have been overwhelmingly positive.
