Approved by district residents in December 2020, the capital project was largely informed through the completion of the state-mandated Building Condition Survey. Additional improvements include roof replacements at nearly all school buildings, parking lot redesign at the high school, and the creation of a new parking lot and bus loop at Kingsborough Elementary School. The project will be completed over several summers to minimize the impact on learning with full completion scheduled for Fall 2024

Multipurpose Spaces, Safety, and Play

Multi-Purpose Space

To provide space for small performances, presentations, and class activities, a corner of the middle school pods features multi-purpose, tiered seating.

Middle School Pods

A large, open corridor previously occupied the center of each middle school wing. To provide additional learning opportunities within the existing footprint, CSArch created learning pods in the 6th and 7th grade wings. Flexible furniture, multiple teaching walls, and transparency between spaces allow teachers to create engaging learning activities outside the typical classroom setting.

Enhanced School Safety

School safety was a key consideration of the capital project. To better screen visitors and monitor building access, each school received a proper secure vestibule and main office with upgraded technology for enhanced security measures in the event of an emergency.

Playgrounds

To enhance the functionality and safety of outdoor play areas, each elementary school received a new playground with age-specific equipment.
