CSArch has partnered with Siena College to renovate the former McGuire Hall into a fully-accessible welcome center and campus admissions building. Coined Patricia Gioia Hall, the renovated facility respects the historic character while ultimately focusing on the “customer experience” as the guiding principle.
Event Space Addition
A 1,200-square-foot, glass-enclosed event space was constructed off the north side of the building. The addition serves as a multi-function gathering space for students and faculty and provides open views into college’s existing Grotto.
Mix of Modern and Traditional
To respect its historic significance, the renovated building maintains elements of traditional colonial architecture while incorporating a modern design to welcome prospective students.
The Grotto
The exterior site was equally important in establishing Gioia Hall as a symbol of Siena College's celebrated history. In addition to new sidewalks and landscaping, an open-air brick structure houses the Bells of Rememberance and serves as an entry point to the Grotto.
Project Scope
Patricia Gioia Hall serves as Siena College’s primary admissions building and functions as the starting point for campus tours. As the first touch-point for prospective students and their families, the welcome center is critically important for the college’s recruitment efforts.
Originally constructed as a single-family residence in 1937, the building was expanded in 1958 and renovated in 2008. The renovation and addition to the current building increased Patricia Gioia Hall's total area to approximately 16,400-square-feet and carefully blends modern and traditional design elements to establish a sense of arrival for campus guests.
