To better align its CTE programming with labor trends, the projected job market, and student interests, Newburgh Enlarged CSD is partnering with CSArch to design a new 132,424 GSF Center for Technical Education.
New Programming
The building will provide the space and flexibility to support potential new programs including early childhood education, HVAC, plumbing, business and marketing, computer gaming/P-Tech and veterinary science.
Program Relocation
The building will consolidate the district's 18 existing CTE programs, allowing for greater educational equity and improved collaboration between departments.
Building Organization
First floor spaces include classrooms for veterinary technology, cosmetology and barbering, as well as construction trades, auto technology, and welding to provide direct outdoor access and allow equipment to be easily moved in and out of the building.
Project Scope
The design team took over the project from a previous architect in Fall of 2023. Following an assessment of the previous project scope, we worked with district stakeholders to redesign the building, which reduced the overall estimated construction cost and increased the amount of New York State Building Aid granted toward the project. To satisfy the approved SEQRA declaration, CSArch was required to reduce the total square footage of the original design. In order to accomplish this without sacrificing critical academic and support space, we purposefully reorganized the building layout to enhance space efficiencies, which consequently resulted in an increase of the net educational space.
