2021 CAPITAL PROJECT

In May 2021, Pine Plains residents approved a $7.7 million capital project that focused on the most pressing health, safety, and infrastructure upgrades at all three school buildings to improve the learning environment for students and faculty.

Cold Spring Early Learning Center

After performing numerous repairs and ongoing maintenance, the district decided a full replacement of the existing roof at Cold Spring Early Learning Center would be the most cost-effective, long-term solution to address leaking and prevent damage to interior spaces.

Seymour Smith Intermediate Learning Center

To maintain and preserve this historic 1930s building, the capital project provided a full roof replacement, exterior masonry restoration, boiler replacements, and asbestos floor tile replacement.

Stissing Mountain Jr. / Sr. High School

The capital project replaced the existing synthetic gymnasium floor with a more durable, modern solution to address buckling and eliminate the risk of injury.

Project Scope

The district has experienced maintenance, energy efficiency, and health and safety concerns over the past several years, resulting in the need for roof and boiler replacements, masonry restoration, and flooring replacements.

The original floor tiles at Seymour Smith Intermediate Learning Center dating back to the 1930s contained asbestos, posing a potential safety hazard to students and staff. The original tile was removed and replaced with new vinyl flooring.

At Stissing Mountain Jr/Sr High School, the existing synthetic gym floor was wearing, buckling, and quickly attracted dust, making it slippery and difficult to clean. A new wood gym floor was installed to eliminate safety concerns and improve maintenance.

The existing roofs at Seymour Smith and Cold Spring experienced considerable leaks in previous years. The roofs were replaced with a high-quality synthetic rubber (EPDM) roof that is durable, long-lasting, and reduced long-term energy costs.
