The two-story, 45,000 square foot athletic center addition provided much-needed space for expanded educational and athletic programs and re-established the school as a place of community.
Purposeful Design
The design features acoustical pan roof deck and wall panels to control sound and maple flooring to add warmth. Windows line two sides of the facility to provide abundant natural daylight, making the space feel open and inviting.
Improved Entry Lobby
The lobby entrance, situated purposely between the auditorium and athletic center, provides improved security and direct access to the new main office suites.
Suspended Running Track
A second-story suspended fitness track overlooks the court and provides an additional practice space for team sports and physical education.
Project Scope
A new gymnasium, main office, and entry lobby provide a welcoming new façade to greet students and visitors. Supplementing the original 1960s gym, the new athletic center seats 800 and provides ample space around the 94-foot court for physical education, spectator team sports, and community events. The lobby entrance, situated efficiently between the auditorium and athletic center, provides improved security and direct access to the new main office suites.
Upon entering, the subtle curve of the auditorium leads you to a double-height light well that washes the walls and illuminates the floors and provides daylight to the second-floor hallways. Mechanical ventilation systems for the new addition are housed in a third-story penthouse offering easy access for maintenance.
