Part of a larger development strategy, this project marks a step towards fulfilling the City of Albany's ongoing plan to stabilize disadvantaged families, position residents for future employment, and ultimately increase the median household income in the city.
The New Campus Center
The CSCC houses office space for community groups, chambers of commerce, and other groups like the Center for Economic Growth. It is also able to host area colleges with education and training space.
The CSCC is an example of the kind of fresh, outside-the-box thinking for which our region is known. Providing workforce development and education to non-traditional students helps us bridge the skills gap and qualify more New Yorkers for unfilled jobs in our area.”
Spaces for Workforce Development
The main entry is centrally located and immediately adjacent to the reception/security desk, a program intake suite, and a small café. On the second floor is a drop-in child-care room, office space for the early intervention program, and classrooms, one of which is equipped as a school science lab.
Project Scope
The Capital South Campus Center (CSCC) is a new 17,500 SF innovative, mixed-use education facility in the City of Albany’s South End neighborhood. Part of a larger development strategy, this project marks a step towards fulfilling the city’s ongoing plan to stabilize disadvantaged families, position residents for future employment, and ultimately increase the median household income in the city.
Stemming from a vision statement created by public stakeholders, “The Community is a Campus; The Center is a Portal”, the design team created a hub for educational advancement and economic growth. Located where a former housing high-rise once stood, CSArch’s design is a rebirth for the property and a high-profile symbol of the community’s potential.
