MIKE CARTER ATHLETIC CENTER

ORU prides itself on its athletic program and required a facility that stands among other Division I programs in the country. Beginning in 2021, our team met with faculty, coaches, athletes, and campus administration to plan for a state-of-the-art training center that would integrate practice and training facilities, office and conference space, locker rooms, and student support space for all athletes.

Training Facilities

The gymnasium building, conveniently located adjacent to team support and coaching spaces, provides two full-size courts for practices and off-season training. A complete fitness center provides access to additional off-court training.

Student and Coaching Support Space

The facility balances plenty of spaces for athletic training while accommodating student academic needs with study rooms, computer labs, and meeting areas, in addition to coaches offices, conference rooms, and lounge spaces.

Team Meeting Space

Tiered seating with projector and AV capabilities help provide a functional, versatile space for team meetings and conferences.

Project Scope

CSArch worked closely in association with the Architect of Record, KSQ Design. Our firms worked collaboratively to create a new training center for Oral Roberts University (ORU) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The facility is broken up into two adjoining buildings. The first building houses three stories and 36,638 square feet of exercise and training spaces, student study spaces and team rooms, lockers rooms, and offices and conference space for the Athletic Director and Men’s and Women’s basketball coaches. The adjacent 18,433-square-foot, single-story gymnasium building boasts two full-size basketball courts with supporting storage rooms, wet rooms, and mechanical equipment. The athletic center is named in honor of ORU Athletic Director Emeritus Mike Carter, who now serves as university’s Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations.
