On Thursday, November 14th, Queensbury Union Free School District held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the district’s $40 million Legacy 2020 Capital Project. Following the ceremony, students, faculty, and the community had the opportunity to tour the redesigned High School which has been completely transformed into a modern learning institution.

“The district and community engaged in a process aimed at providing an innovative learning environment reflective of a world that our students are going into when they graduate,” said Dr. Jill Borgos, President of Queensbury’s Board of Education. “The redesigned high school reflects the need for students to be flexible and adaptable. From the layout of the transitional spaces, to the specifics of the furniture – a focus on dynamic student learning through collaboration and creativity, with a flexible mindset was always at the forefront of this project.”

Coined the Legacy 2020 Capital Project, the redesign of Queensbury High School began in 2013 with a two-year planning process that set the stage for converting the existing school into a modern learning institution. The design deconstructs traditional “silos” and replaces them with three interdisciplinary instructional communities that allow for greater collaboration among faculty and students. The redesigned high school supports cross-curricular teaching, encourages instructional, professional, and student collaboration, seamlessly integrates technology, and enhances security.

“We’ve done projects throughout the state, but this project at Queensbury stands out.” said CSArch Managing Principal Greg Klokiw, who led the project and helped give tours of the High School on Thursday. “The partnership between the design team, the school district, the community and the students collectively allowed us to reimagine this building and realize a student-centered vision for 21st Century education.”
